Has anyone seen that movie with Angelina Jolie "Beyond Borders"?
Its about the work of humanitarian workers and tha (lack of) support they face...

Do not mistake my reluctance to participate in corporate "charity" as a lack of support for real humanitarian efforts, please. As I said above, I do support charities of my choice and in my own way.

I'm talking about being "strongly encouraged" to give to a charity whose practicesIi find questionable.

That was not what iImeant...on the contrary. You problably did not see the movie.
There is a scene in it that affected me. Is one of the big and very expensive charity dinners, with enough food to feed hundreads for a month, that was invaded by a doctor claiming that this particular charity was taken away the support to Ethiopia because of political reasons and little children were dying of starvation while they were wasting food and calling it charity.
It got me thinking about it.

What you are refering to I would call it coersion...

I agree 100%.  And what chaps my hide is that the organization I used to work for that held massive efforts for a charity (probably the same one), I felt that it (the organization) had enough money to donate FOR all of its employees, without cutting into my VERY meager wages.  I prefer local charities as well, and large umbrella ones always leave room for questions regarding how they are handling all the donations they receive.
