My boss always says thankyou.  However, he is not one to praise.  He really surprised me last week when he brought in a cake for my birthday, which happened to fall on Admin. Prof Day (so he got the "double Whammy")and two cards, one for my b'day and 1 for admin day as well as a rather large gift card for a local book store.  He wrote a nice note in the cards and really made me feel appreciated.
