Hello everyone. Coming out of lurkdom to pose a question. I have been looking for a job since the beginning of February. I am seeing more and more the requirement "MUST" have your own car with valid insurance. Whaaat? Guess you will need it to run the personal errands that is also included in the job description. has anyone else noticed this am I nuts?

I am sure this may have been posted before. Why is it they will hire a recent college grad with a Masters degree in the study of the tsetse fly with no admin experience over an admin professional with 20+ years experience who can hit the ground running? Money? You are a "cute young" thing? More interested in planning partying with your friends than doing the "boring" aspects of the job? This is what I am competing with.
Also, why do some people think being an admin is easy?
Chikky feeling better and getting off the soapbox and returning to lurkdom.

Who does this? I have been reading a lot of job wanted ads that list this as a requirement. Really, who can do three things at once (unless you have children, and sometimes I feel like I am baby sitting on the job). I guess I need to be able to answer the phones and handle customers, be typing and formatting a power point presentation, taking care of a unexpected walk in customer, AND run down to city hall to file permits that were due 2-weeks ago, that you finally got complete after I harassed you about. All of this done at the same time? COME ON, get with it. It has been scientifically proven the human brain cannot do this! Off my soap box. Feel better!

My sister and I buried my mother on Tuesday after a long illness. We are thankful that she is final at rest and at peace. At the wake, someone who did not leave a name but left us the following message. Can anyone tell me what it means? I think I know what it means but need validation from an outside source. How can anyone be so mean at this time.
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. - Prov. 11:21

Age discrimination is out there. Why would any agency post: Recent grads encourged to apply? I could be 80-years old and be a recent grad! )I am not 80, but getting up there in age and I need to work for the next 20 years.) I would walk in and the job has suddenly been put on hold or filled.

I am doing fine Gee.
When you first come to the DD home page, there is an artilce with 5 points to handle a drama queen. The tips point more or less to give into their demands, walk on eggshells and stay out of they radar screen. Why do I have to do that? We are all a team and there is no I in team. To me, drama queens are another form of bullying. Why are they put up with? Why do I have to acquise to them? I was so worked up over it, I posted response a response there. I feel better now.

Been there and have done that. I like how I made out a bill to be paid (4-times redoing). Where did all four copies end up. In bossie's wife's tax file. Wow! How did it make it there? Have no access to that file. Sheesh!

I was in a similar situatation about 10-years ago. Been with the company 20+ years. No communication. I left for better pastures. I really feel for you. You spend a 1/3 of your life working, another 1/3 sleeping, and hopefully 1/3 with friends and family. But it is 1/3 working, that drives you. Why is that? Because you care about the people you work with, love the job, etc. Who knows what drives us to stay at a crazy situation

Gee,
Who is in charge of all these changes at your place of work. Sounds like they should be FIRED! When you reorg, they WHOLE org should get the communication from the CEO down to the janitors (not to put janitors on the end of the list, they provide a much needed service and very important roles). Communication is lacking here. You need to find out through the grapevine who you are supporting? It is assine.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / How do you not know your own address?

OK. Cut out a check for a independent contractor who did some work for us. Where do you want us to send the check? Contractor provides home address. Put the check in the mail to address provided. Contractor calls and said she lives at 210 ABC Way not 120 DCEE Drive. Town is XYZ not JKLMOP. Zip Code (do not even go there). Hey we got the State right! Now she wants us to cut a new check (at $35 cost to us). We will wait until the check gets sent back to us and then send it to the correct( ) address. She has lived there for the past 3-years. It's not like she moved overnight! She sends about 10 emails a day and a daily phone demanding payment! Well at least she has the email address correct and phone numbers correct. Back from a 10-day vacation. This is what I have to deal with. Oh well, makes it interesting.
