Does anyone ever have to re-do work because someone else has lost or misplaced it? I am 2 missing travel request forms which were never signed nor returned to me. I have the original unsigned soft copies which I will have to get authorised again, plus dig out all the supporting documentation to go with them. Why am I having to re-do my work to compensate for the mistakes of others? Why does this happen? I have never heard of any PA who has lost paperwork before...it's unheard of. I don't make anyone re-do their job so why make me re-do mine?

Oh, my dear Gee....pull up a comfy chair with the breakfast beverage of your choice and let me tell you some stories..... Well, no, I won't do that, but this is a CONSTANT issue where I work. I keep paper and electronic copies of everything and, in some cases, make special routing instructions so that the paperwork gets sent back to ME after EVERY step so I can make yet another copy of each additional signature. I've even gone so far with critical documents as to walking/driving/taking the subway to the various offices myself and waiting for a signature. My boss, not exactly thrilled with the idea of me being away from my desk for almost three hours said, "Do you have to?" I replied, "Can you afford it getting lost if I don't?" Time wasting? When everybody is on the ball and moving things through, yes. But it's saved my hide more than once, twice, thrice.....

It's a constant battle...people either travel or attend meetings, so it varies from one day to the next who is available to sign these reqeusts off.
Hanging about someone's desk in the hope they will appear is just not an option, which is why we entrust the help of the PAs who are hired to support these individuals.
Can you imagine if I lost paperwork? I'd be the worst in the world!

How about re doing work because the work product is so poorly produced I won't send it out as received. Of course it could also be that I am too particular about the way presentations should look.

Oh, ho, you mean like the proposal I was handed a few years ago to send out overnight that was put together by about half a dozen people -- with each section of narrative in a different font, size, margin and the financial page on a spreadsheet with no headings and the formulas showing?? That I got at 4:00 with a 4:30 UPS pickup time that I missed? That I ended up driving with me to the UPS store near my house finally at almost 6:30 and had to pay with my credit card and get reimbursed for? That one? I didn't know whether to , , , or .

I would also add having to re-do work that was done in my absence, but I really wished the kind-hearted soul had just left well alone!

Been there and have done that. I like how I made out a bill to be paid (4-times redoing). Where did all four copies end up. In bossie's wife's tax file. Wow! How did it make it there? Have no access to that file. Sheesh!
