Good luck for finding the right position soon. I remember when I was laid off in 1989 I thought it was the worst day of my life, but I have been at my present job for 10 1/2 years and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I know you'll find something that you are just going to love. Good Luck.

I don't feel safe in our office as during the day, since we don't have a receptionist any longer, anyone can jump over the counter and waltz right in! And I've complained but it's fallen on deaf ears. Guess they'll worry about it when something happens. This reminded of last week when we had our flu shots. We had to go upstairs into another company's offices and we were standing in line. I noticed one of the gals there (younger type) and thought I spotted her purse on the desk. I asked her if it was and she said yes and I just suggested she lock it up as some people cannot resist temptation and they would be having a lot of people come through there getting their shots. She thanked me profusely and so did the other (older) gal that sat next to her. I was back standing in line when she leaned over and said "gee, everywhere I go I always find mothers to take care of me!" I was happy I had said something and maybe stopped something bad from happening . . .

We pay our bills on-line also and instead of taking a couple of hours a month, it takes about 15 minutes because we have everything set up and just click in the amount. And we only write about 5 checks a month. My checking account statement comes on email along with copies of the checks. Boy this technology is great. Also, I now have a debit card and it's so much easier at the checkout then getting my checkbook out. I always think this is funny do you get paid bi-weekly or bi-monthly? Isn't bi-weekly twice a week?

I was in NO in October and we went to Copeland's which was very good and one night we went to the Original Coffee Pot which I liked even better and it was in the French Quarter and we were able to sit outside. We got to walk thru the quarter and go into several voodoo shops, souvenir shops etc. It's fun but if you are not used to hot/spicey foods you better be careful what you order.

My sister's husband in California has been looking for a good ad-min for over a year. He's had 3 temps during that time but they don't stay (of course I don't know what type of boss he'd be). He's found that the younger the person is - that they do not want that type work and it's the older women (late 40's early 50's) who are working at those positions. The younger folks are getting higher educations and they do not want to be being doing ad-min work, when I went to school most women were not encouraged to further their education, they were encouraged to get married. Every ad-min in our office (7 of us) are all in our late 40's or early 50's. I think that's what most of the posts have stated and probably better than me but I wanted to put my two cents worth in.

I didn't realize they still had this, I thought they changed it to bring your child to work day, since I only have a son I never really paid attention. Where I work they don't recognize it, and I'm sorry I don't know when it is.

You are very correct. The employer does not want anyone getting hurt (or claiming to be hurt) by picking up heavy boxes or whatever. When we post a job now, we have to be very specific or else the employee will/can come back and claim they didn't know they had to perform that task. Gone are the days when you got a job and were even afraid to talk to the boss - oh the good old days!

My company is an international company, but I don't think they would transfer an Administrative person like me - they transfer tech people & management/sales people. I wouldn't mind living overseas for a couple of years, but we had a incident several years ago where our people were stuck in Jakarta, Indonesia and it was tough getting them out during the riots.

I've heard University of Phoenix advertised on tv for internet courses. I don't know anything about them myself but good luck and you probably can check out their website for info.

That's one thing in our office that we are told not to give out and that is passwords. I'm the only assistant in our dept. so if something happened to me there would be chaos for a little while although we have others around the office in different departments and the person with least seniority has 4 years with the company. Around here they stay a long time - I'm proud to say I've been here 10 years in June. I can't really understand why there is such a secret about voice mail passwords though I get very boring voice messages. Everyone would fall asleep if they heard them!

I am so sorry to hear about this. Where I work we do have available a 24-hour confidential number to call a service that will help you and it really works. Or I would go to HR right away but make sure you don't make yourself sick over a boss. Your job is not worth getting sick over. Also, I would make sure I keep documentation on all that happened.
Good Luck.

Glad it's not me working there. I have 2 bosses, however one is my direct supervisor and everyone in the office knows I work for him first. You need to have someone to be your direct supervisor. I would think then that a lot of your problems would end. Maybe that's a little wishful thinking on my part. How do you get reviewed - all of them sit around in a conference room and decide on your fate/raise/promotion? That sounds scary to me.

Don't worry about not knowing what ITA meant I didn't know it either and it took me forever to figure out what LOL stood for! Sitting here looking out at a beautiful sunny day and the temp will be in the 70's!
