General Discussion / Topical Climates / Green and do you make a difference
|
on: February 12, 2009, 10:10:15 am

I am having an argument with a co worker. Brining in a coffee up instead of using the paper products in the break room, using a cup for filter water not bottle, add these to other small easy things to do. These are small things and I say they DO make a difference. My friend is set on. one person doesn't make a difference in the grand scale of things. Who agrees with me and who agrees with her?

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Above and beyond normal functions
|

Today I was looking over my goals for this year and feel I am meeting them, but with the company so tight budgeted to get a raise I will need to do my job beyond expectation but feel I need some thing in addition to that. I need some achievements that are beyond my normal duties. I feel I have a normal job, calendaring, planning meetings and travel arrangements, some weekly/monthly excel reports, pass out pay stubs, supplies, presentations and projects. Does anyone have any suggestions how to show my manager.. above and beyond my job functions?

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Does anyone use Skype?

Skype is great. I use it quite a bit. We use it for meetings at work and just saving money. I don't use the actual pay to call a phone that often because there has been no need. The one time I did, it was quite inexpensive though. If you talk to someone over seas it really is great.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / does anyone work at home once in awhile?
|
on: July 01, 2008, 08:06:25 pm

My company is thinking of letting people work at home one day a week to save on fuel. I was wondering if any other companies do that and if you have worked from home? Do you get the work done or is it easier to goof off? One day a week I think I can do, but more than that I would need more discipline. Has anyone considered working from home and if so, how do you do it?

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Best way to transcribe?

Thanks for the feedback. I will look into some equipment, I probably spend more time trying to go back a few seconds (think of this, I stop, open the program which is different then I am typing in, click on the tab and judge, that time adds up).
I appreciate your help.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Best way to transcribe?
|

I have never actually took dictation and transcription, but I need to transcribe some audio files. It is a pain to do using programs like media player! I keep going back over and over to re listen to the last 5 seconds or so. It can take me up to 6 or 7 hour to transcribe 30 minutes. Well, it depends on who is speaking some less some more, always more then I think it should.
Does transcribing equipment work better? Can you stop easier so you don't have to actually go back over and over? I guess does anyone have any transcribing tips to make it less tedious.

General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Past typos
|

I had to type this hand written "typo" report where, the person who created the first draft was not an admin and English was her second language. But thinking about it, still makes me laugh. Long story short, we had to double bubble wrap 6 bottles of chemicals then report discrepancies. Through out the WHOLE report (must have been 5 or more times), wrap was typed rape and 6 was written .. well she dotted her i's so they looked alot like e's. This was 100% NOT intentional and just really someone not thinking, this person was totally professional and would not submit a report just to be funny. To this day, a co worker and I still giggle about the how you had to double bubble rape the sex vials of what ever chemical it was.

The best method I found is I think similar to what Jodith mentioned. I have them email me. First if they take the time to actually email, it shows they had a real interest. Once I received the email, I decide who and if to forward it to someone. This method seems to work well.

General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Typing: Speed vs Accuracy

I think accuracy is more important, but you must have a decent speed with it! I remember learning to type on electric type writers in high school. Everyone had to take one class, my first job though was computer based. It was a green and white Wang! My second computer was a Mac and that was like oohh ahhhh wow. How times have changed!
