My thoughts are not to get worried. There isn't much you could do/say after-the-fact that would improve anyones negative impression that they might have formed of you through your "friend". But your actions can speak for themselves. Be your most professional (which I'm sure you are always at your day-time job) and keep it up no matter what. This, more than anything, will show those acquiantances of your "friend's" whether or not he/she knows what he/she was talking about.
