Whether or not it goes against the Geneva Convention, I can't really say.  I'm not familiar enough with all the ins and outs of that to say for sure.  

I wouldn't be surprised, though, if that was a deliberate move in order to show his followers how low he had fallen in hopes of demoralizing them.  just a thought...
