Well, I hate to sound like a "grinch", but I'd really rather not bother at the office this year because.....
-It's a potluck. I have nothing against potlucks, but at this time of year, I really don't need yet another thing to do.
-Someone always wrinkles his/her nose at the idea of a potluck and suggests "going out somewhere", but it's usually beyond my budget and the budget of most of the support staff -- which is why it ends up being potluck.
-Just TRY finding a date/time that works for everyone.
-It's the support staff that ends up organizing it, providing most of the food, and, best of all, CLEANING UP!
-I'm in the fundraising office -- December is to fundraising what March and April are to accounting. I end up taking a plate of food back to my desk anyway.
-People usually end up talking about work . Isn't that what meetings are for?
Now, that said, if we had the budget to all go out to a nice luncheon on the organization's dime where I wouldn't have to cook/bake, set up and clean up and be able to be away from my desk and phone without feeling guilty, then I'd be all for it. But the way it's done now....well....it's just more work.
