Well, no, I won't do that, but this is a CONSTANT issue where I work. I keep paper and electronic copies of everything and, in some cases, make special routing instructions so that the paperwork gets sent back to ME after EVERY step so I can make yet another copy of each additional signature. I've even gone so far with
critical documents as to walking/driving/taking the subway to the various offices myself and waiting for a signature. My boss, not exactly thrilled with the idea of me being away from my desk for almost three hours said, "Do you have to?" I replied, "Can you afford it getting lost if I don't?"
Time wasting? When everybody is on the ball and moving things through, yes. But it's saved my hide more than once, twice, thrice.....
