Did you get any recognition last week?  How were you treated?  Did you get a pat on the back, lunch, another form of appreciation?   Did you feel satisfied or wish your hard work was noticed more?  Do you have any ideas on how to get recognition ALL year round, not just one day/week a year.

I was taken out to lunch by the group. It was quite nice. Smiley

I was given a nice card signed by all the managers (5), taken out to lunch, given flowers (gerber daisy) in a really cute yellow labrador retriever planter and a rather large g/c to a local bookstore from my two direct managers. I also must say that they tell me "thank you" and "I appreciate you" on a regular basis, far more than previous places I've worked in my 10+ year career.

I had a free lunch and was told thank you.  I think the overall recognition for the day was less this year.  I heard less about it on the radio, saw no news articles.   It seemed more down played this year.

Susan,

You don't say in relation to what, so I take it you mean Professional Admins Day???

No.  No one in my company has ever heard of it, as in previous companies, so no recognition here.

I did get flowers and a thank you card for getting my travellers back safely after recent flight disruptions.

My boss always says thankyou.  However, he is not one to praise.  He really surprised me last week when he brought in a cake for my birthday, which happened to fall on Admin. Prof Day (so he got the "double Whammy")and two cards, one for my b'day and 1 for admin day as well as a rather large gift card for a local book store.  He wrote a nice note in the cards and really made me feel appreciated.

How do your bosses all know about this day/event?  Have you told them or do they just know about it?

It seems to be celebrated mostly in the US.  Is this why most of the recognition received, seems to have come from
those across the pond?  Curious....

Last week? Hmm... let me think, um no.

However a particularly comical security guy did ask where he had seen me before! (I have only worked here 2 years or so  Grin).

It was mercifully low-key this year.   Wink  A simple card was on my desk signed by the team with some truly lovely, thoughtful comments expressing their appreciation.

Years ago I posted about the debacles the organization had tried to do as "retreats" that were anything but helpful, rejuvenating, or enlightening.  Out to lunch rarely works because there's always, ALWAYS some last minute fire to put out, usually as you're putting on your coat, so....really a card with some sincere appreciation expressed was just perfect as far as I'm concerned.

How do your colleagues know about this day Katie?  Did you tell them?  Is it commonly known?  Is it more widely celebrated in the US than the UK?

Still curious....

It's on our radio stations and mentioned in the usual hallmark holiday ways (hallmark is a card and gift store here). I didn't see a lot of publicity for it.

Our company did an event, so it was in our company newsletter.

I definitely am under the impression that it is a bigger day here than abroad (and it's not "THAT" big of a day here), and that probably makes sense given that IAAP is primarily US (and to a lesser extent Canada) based.

Thanks Marie.  That makes sense now.  If it was known I guess we would have air time too.

To be honest, Gee, I had forgotten about it!  I do know it's pre-printed on many calendars around the office -- along with Bosses Day.... but there's wasn't much fuss made.

Considering my birthday comes right on its heels, and I'm not a particular fan of the spotlight, the low key approach is just fine with me.  I mean, I do my job, my boss does his job, my colleagues do their jobs...we're just doing what we're supposed to do.

However, to be brutally honest, I am rather better paid at this organization than I would be paid for similar work somewhere else.  (I'm not overpaid, mind you, just fairly compensated -- many in this profession are not.) I suppose if I were doing the same workload for $10K less and substandard benefits, I might feel differently about the whole thing.....

Sounds like I feel I am undervalued, not at all.  Like you Katie, I do my job and don't expect any recognition but I am also well paid and get excellent holidays including flexi-time.

However no one in any of the companies I have been employed, seems to have heard of Admin Professionals Day.  I think there seems to be a different view of admins across the divide and perhaps that's why some are rewarded and others not.
