I had my Performance Review done yesterday and I am very pleased with it. I have been at this job for only 9 months and am happy to be here. I had a very rough start to the job though, I almost did not stay on the job. On the third day of my new job my father passed away; he committed suicide. It was a horrible time for me. My new boss was so understanding and patient. He was really great. After nine months I'm beginning to feel more like myself. He would like me to learn more to work on Powerpoint Presentations and Excel Worksheets. Since he gave me such a great performance review I would like to give positive employee feedback on a professional level, not too personal. I have to put that incident behind me. Does anyone have a suggestions? Thank you.

You know sometimes I think we, as a group tip toe TOO hard around the personal issues, but Im thinking there is a way to address this in a professional manner,,, What about..
"your continued support, encouragement and sincere desire to facillitate my success both within your department and at the corporate level, form the basis for what I hope will be a long and productive professional relationship"
Sounds like you've got a gem there,,, tell him we said so!

I'd just like to add a pat on the back for you, because it seems you've performed commendably in a difficult time. I'm glad you have such a wonderful, understanding boss. I went through a similar period of time, when my nephew committed suicide. My boss was pretty understanding too, and that can make a huge difference!
