OK I made a mistake, but why go through all this pettiness? I have a year-old son and I hate wearing work shoes (so uncomfortable) when I run around after him. I wear my sneakers. So, earlier this week, I forgot to take them off-twice.
Now, these are not dirty running sneakers. They are black Converse One-Stars and look good with casual business wear (our dress code).
Well, someone freaked out about my sneakers and went to HR. HR gave me a friendly reminder (nothing went into my file) about the dress code today. The official dress code in our handbook says NOTHING about sneakers during the week. Our receptionist said that lots of people wear sneakers during the week, and she can't believe that someone is being so petty about what a PART-TIME EMPLOYEE is wearing on her feet.
OK, I sit at the front desk for an hour while our receptionist takes lunch, but no one can see my feet!
I'm dropping the issue and not wearing sneakers to work during the week anymore. Our office is laid-back, so I was surprised when this happened. But this office pettiness stuff is nothing new to me, after all-this is my sixth job (fifth admin job). I still shake my head, though. Whoever tattled on me needs to get a life and/or some work to do, and stop looking at my feet. Sheesh!

I am often amazed at what employers have time to "police" while often ignoring larger issues entirely.
Sounds like someone's gotten a "bee in their bonnet" where you're concerned, but just a thought,....are others being lectured for their choice of footwear? And if not, why are you being singled out for this special treatment...?
It's a question I'd ask, assuming of course, that you don't mind rocking the boat from time to time. Inequity of policy enforement REALLY bothers me, and quoting from a non existant policy (ie if nothing is written specifically about sneakers, then sneakers aren't disallowed), can get a company in very real trouble should someone decide to make an issue of it.
What?! Only part timers Aren't allow to wear sneakers? Shhesh, you're 100% right, some people have FAR far too much time on their hands!
My four pence.

Sheesh!! Sometimes you gotta wonder WHY they have so much time on their hands! But perhaps you could get a pair of more comfortable work shoes--I have had loafers and oxfords that are darned-near as comfy as sneakers. Then you can go easy on your feet while you fight your battle with the sneaker police (and kick them in the butt with them too)!
