Hi There All
I need to write to our new Chairman, who is a "Sir". How do I address him in a memo ... would it be:
Dear Sir John or Dear Sir John Hammond
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Smitkit

We always do "Dear Sir Fred" - we tend not to put their surname.
(We have to write to knighted Professors, so ours are like "Dear Professor Sir Barney" - what a mouthful!

Why not "Dear Chairman"? I think that would be the most respectful way.

I am most definitely NOT the one to answer your question, laundry, but I think what was mean by he's a Sir is that he's been Knighted, and as such, he should be addressed as Sir So-n-So; rather than Chairman, as it's a higher title.
Just my opinion . . .

Oh! Thank you for that clarification. I thought she meant he was a "sir" as in he is a man (Dear Sir or Madam).
