FYI,

I received an email from my travel agent, and found an article in NY Times to back it up.  You might want to take not if your boss is a "Stand-by Addict".  Not all changes apply to all carriers, but I thought you would still like to know what she said.

1. A non-refundable ticket shall always remain non-refundable.
2.  Changes on airline tickets must be advised prior to departure or else the ticket will hold NO value - even if entirely unsued.  Me must CANCEL the flight no loater than 1 hour prior to departure.
3.  All luggage rules are being enforced.  Including the size limit rule.

I'm sure there are others, but I haven't had a chance to check all the airlines.  What ticks me off is that at AA, there is nothgin on their website homepage, and I'm having to hunt to find these things.  I understand that SW Airlines and Jet Blue are not following in their Big Rival's footsteps.

Bluefire,

Bossie is a huge USAirways fan and here are some of the rules they have put into place that I know are true:

1) All Non-Refundalbe tickets if not used in the time-frame they are bought will no longer have any value to them after the flight dates (just like a concert ticket; if you don't use it the day of it's no longer valid).

2) If you request a paper ticket instead of an e-ticket there will be a 25.00 additional processing fee.

3) No more free alcoholic drinks available (me thinks that's for first class passengers, not sure on that one)

4) No longer allowed to go on stand-by.

Those are a few; I've been getting emails left and right from USAirways and our travel agent and from what I understand these are the first of many that will be coming down the pike.

"Customers ticketed on non-refundable fares will continue to earn full Dividend Miles credit. Effective for travel January 1, 2003 and beyond, miles and segments earned on most non-refundable fares will not count toward Dividend Miles Chairman's Preferred, Gold Preferred and Silver Preferred status."

This one came from USAirways today; now does this mean after January 03 that non-refundable tickets will no longer go towards segments or points on the Dividend Miles?  What's the purpose to flying these carriers if they aren't going to offer these perks; kinda like shootin themselves in the foot.

Yeppers Sad  I'm NOT a happy camper.  My bossies like to do last minute changes, and now some of the really amazing fare I used to get will no longer be available.

I just talked to our travel agent this morning and she said that yes this is what they are thinking of doing on certain low fare tickets that are non-refundable they may not offer Dividend miles or segments on.  Boy let me tell ya if that starts she says that the rest of the carriers will be doing the same thing as well; then I guess we are either stuck with it or just don't fly?  I don't see that with busiess travel but I bet it will have an effect on the vacationing travellers.  Here we go; just another fly to add in the ointment!

Well maybe this is what Amtrack needs to get back on their feet.  Thousands of ex-fliers running to get cheap fares on trains to major cities.

I heard that Delta is going to start enforcing their 2 (or is it 3?) checked bag limit per person.  According to the news I heard, it's all because of the number of folks who are checking more baggage to keep from having any carry-on because of the security checks they go through with those.  This isn't too big a deal for those of us traveling for work (as long as it's short stays) but what about families or long vacations and such??  Do kids count as a person, so can each have 3 bags?  I dunno, I try not to fly too much, but that's the new news on flying that I'm aware of.
