I am sending my boss and a group of 20 or so senior financial executives to New Orleans for a two-day meeting in March. I would like to schedule a group dinner for them. I am unfamilar with the area and would like some suggestions on places I can send them. They are staying on Canal Street - something not too "out of the way" would be great. I think Emeril has a place in New Orleans, but I doubt I could get reservations there.
Any suggestions?

Sueg22 - a new name! Welcome, welcome, welcome.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about New Orleans - but I'd call the Chamber of Commerce down there - I'd bet money they could point you in the right direction. I know my city has a website that gives info on entertainment, dining, etc. - they probably do as well.

Sue, One of my favorites is Antoine's. It was a favorite of my in-laws while they lived in New Orleans. Several years ago there was a conference held in New Orleans, my (then) boss (the mayor) and many of the city councilmembers attended. I was given the pleasure of making arrangements for a group dinner. I chose Antoine's. We were given a private room and the best waiter (because they all new my father-in-law). I got high marks for the dinner. There are many less formal restaurants but this is a must for anyone visiting New Orleans. check out www.neworleans.com and go to the visitors link, then the link to the restaurants (it is sponsored by Antoine's). And just a personal note, I've eaten at Emerils in New Orleans and the one in Las Vegas and am not all that impressed. I hope that they will allow time in their schedule to hit a few of the wonderful jazz clubs/bars in the area. Another must is Cafe DuMonde for the world famous beignets. sungoddess in LV

Hi Sue! I just loved New Orleans! I was there with the entire sales and marketing staff for sales kick-off about three years ago...what a riot! There are lots of fameous restaurants, but the most fameous by far is Antoine's! Definately have them go there! And I also understand that there is a restaurant in the Hotel Monteleone that is outstanding! (My brother used to work for a group that book and handled all major conventions, including the AMA!) I believe he's the one who told me about the Monteleone! Just walking around the french quarter will turn up all kinds of things...and tell them to try the fried alligator! It was very good! But if you just want to search the web, just type www.neworleans.com...it's all there! Daisylee

Thank you for your great ideas. I looked at Antoine's - it sounds really nice, but now I'm torn between sending them out to a "nice dinner" and sending them to Michaul's for dinner, drinks and cajun dancing lessons! They are a tough crowd to read - they can go either way.
I'd think after a stuffy meeting all day, a good night of drinking and dancing is just what they need. :-)
I may even make reservations for both and let them decide and just cancel one. Hmmmm.
Thanks again for all your help!! This is such a great website!

Wondering about our reputation... something happened to the remainder of my posting.
I was saying that we have a reputation for having some of the most overweight people in the nation (myself included). I attribute this to having some of the best restaurants in the world. You can find great places to eat around every corner throughout the city.
With the successful of Emeril's TV show, getting into any of his restaurants here is hard. Two of my favs are Commanders Place and Arnauds (who have a wonderful display of Mardi Gras memorabilia).
Mardi Gras has started and will continue through the last week of February. I personally hope to leave the city that week. I have lived here most all my life and don't have any desire to stand in line for an hour to use a restroom, but that is just my opinion.
We also have a great website "nola.com" which offers on line reservations to some restaurants.

I was in NO in October and we went to Copeland's which was very good and one night we went to the Original Coffee Pot which I liked even better and it was in the French Quarter and we were able to sit outside. We got to walk thru the quarter and go into several voodoo shops, souvenir shops etc. It's fun but if you are not used to hot/spicey foods you better be careful what you order.
