So they're having a presentation this morning.  I've set up the refreshments, designed and printed the "certificate" that's being presented, arranged the room and AV.  I'm not there for the actual event.  Which would be fine with me -- I'm a admin after all, not a grand muckety muck around here.

BUT in order to "fill out" the attendance (so that the photos for the organization's newletter look good), my manager ran around rounding up all the *other* admins to come over while  I'm here "minding the store".  Which would be fine, but everyone who'd be calling here is over at the event while I sit here on a silent, empty floor twiddling my thumbs.

I gotta admit I'm just a *little* peeved.

I'm sorry you feel left out, Dids.

You could ask your manager when you next see him (why do I think it is a "him"?) how the event went, and when he says how wonderful it was that's your opportunity to reply, in the most pleasant way, that you were sorry to have missed the event ... you would have liked to have participated as you had done so much towards making it a success.

It sounds like complete thoughtlessness to me (which is why I think it is a "him", hehehe), but if you make your point, the penny will drop eventually.

I know what you mean.  I've helped put together quite a few meetings/functions that I was never a part of.  But, the way I look at it is, if I'm holding down the fort, they trust me enough to be left alone and do what I have to do to handle the office while they are on the road, or at a meeting.

But I know how you must feel in being left out.  I guess its the nature of our jobs being Admins.  If it weren't for us sometimes, things wouldn't run so smoothly, we are taken for granted in that regard.  I agree with Raindance and her approach.

Did--perhaps you're so beautiful that they didn't want to look dowdy by comparison!

If I want to attend a meeting that I have organized, I tell  my boss. Did you tell him (in advance) that you would like to attend? He may say that no, you aren't needed, but he won't know you want to be there unless you let him know!

Dettu, you make me laugh.

It's not so much the fact that I stayed back -- sometimes you have to -- it's the fact that OTHER admins on the floor were pulled over to swell the numbers and make it look good.  Kind of lika a "what am I, chopped liver" kind of thing.

Come to think of it, Dettu, I'm about 10 years older and a good bit plumper than the other admins around here.  I've also got a rather "mature" face.  Always have.  (I'm 37, but if I told you I was 47, you'd believe me.) Maybe they wanted the younger folks for the pictures.  Which is fine, but I missed the chance to network......

Ah well.  On the other hand, it was nice to have some peace and quiet......

Enjoy that peace and quiet, Didface. It gives one the opportunity to plan, plan, plan. What you plan for is up to you!
