Yep, I'm losing my "private" office. I don't mind though -- it can get awfully quiet in here when it's just me. Quiet to the point that I've actually dozed off a few times. Fortunately, it's someone I know from another department who's transferring, and we've worked together before, so I think we'll be okay on that front.
Of course, I've been asking about computer/phone hookups and have been told that it's "being taken care of."
Uh-huh. Been there, done that, and had to buy a new t-shirt because of all the you-know-what I got hit with. Roomie arrives in three business days and I haven't seen a soul from IT or Telecom come in here to check if jacks are live or anything. So much for their two-week lead time requirement. Oh well. There's REALLY nothing I can do because I'm not allowed to get involved. Fine. I've washed my hands of it at this point.
It's going to be a little tight. Our office building was actually a dormitory in it's former life, so the offices are the size of a dormitory room -- and about as charming. I've cleared out a load of old junk, emptied half the closet space and have been wiping down shelves and things so Roomie at least has a clean place to start getting settled. I've got a plan to fit an extra desk and filing cabinet in here, and my chocolate basket has been refilled. I've got a second key ready for her. Maybe I'll pick up a small plant to freshen the place up a bit so it looks a little more welcoming in here.
So, okay folks, what am I forgetting?

Perhaps dropping a friendly word in your new Roomie's ear about the computer/phone hook-up (possible) problem? She might be able to get involved and ensure that something gets done, or at least will be aware of the potential lack of equipment when she gets there, and that you've done what you could to assist her. Makes for a helpful and friendly start.
Otherwise, it seems you've pretty much covered everything. Good luck!
