Since iaap "upgraded" me to CAP it started me thinking about taking NALS Professional Legal Secretary exam. Is anyone else here certified? I'm have found little value in the CPS CAP as employers do not know what is. I would think the legal designation would be better known. However only 3 passed the exam from my state last test cycle and I don't even know if I can find a testing site! ( no responses from the two local chapters yet). Testing is twice a year next one in March and total cost books etc would probably be around $500 which my company will not reimburse ( I don't need the pass fail pressure from company) Thoughts?

I would suggest doing it for you. I am sure it would look good on a resume, even if the hiring person had no idea what it is, but in the end I think it is personal pride in your work and your accomplishments that really stand out. If it is something you are proud of, then anyone you talk to about it in the future will appreciate it more than if "you" don't feel it was worth it.

I agree with doing it for *you*. I doubt if you will find much additional recognitiion for the NALS certification (except possibly in law firms - do you work for one?). However, the benefits of certification are many and go far beyond whether our employer recognizes them or not.
