I'm kicking myself today. I had to order catering for an out of town event for one of the bosses. Two different delivery locations from a place that doesn't deliver! I got the date wrong and delivery was a day early. (He is in three different cities each day on internal sales tour.) Boss doesn't get back until Friday. Fortunately it's donuts so they will keep a day, but still! Next time I will triple confirm the days for delivery! He will going to the same place again in August. I know he isn't happy with me over this even though he told me on the phone not to worry about it; waiting until Friday to talk to him about it is the worst! And it doesn't help that another admin is making a joke out it coming by my desk "What else have you messed up today?” I joked it off twice with comments like nothing but the day is young yet. On the third time I said she was messing up my aura and needed to stop.

Believe me, it's the "clowns" who are the quickest to pass judgement. Mistakes can be made, so what, we hold our hands up and fix it.
How did your colleague know about this, and what is your boss annoyed about? A day early is fine, worse if it was a day late!

I keep a box of cards on my desk, all kinds rather than have to get a last minute b/d card etc. My colleague was rumaging through the box for a birthday card she forgot to pick up for someone in her group. (ironic I know) The call came in from my boss while she was standing there. I know I'm human but I hate making mistakes!

I do too Atlanta but what goes round comes round and one day she'll make a mistake no matter how big or small. You won't have to say a thing, you can just sit back and laugh. Don't beat yourself up, tomorrow is another day.

If she said it a third time, I'd answer... "Yes, I made a mistake telling my co-worker I made a mistake and now she won't drop it!"

As you said yourself it's only doughnuts. Now if it was a three course meal, I'd be very unhappy too.
Your boss has told you not to worry about it, so mention it briefly on Friday and if he brushes it off, as it sounds he will, then let it go.

I have found we tend to beat ourselves up worse than anyone else. My boss would have laughed it off. Its a free donut, they will eat them and if they are a little hard, they can dunk them:-) If had been a catered meal for a large group or a customer dinner, even a hotel reservation, that could be a problem. But these are donuts. Laugh it off and don't even mention it on Friday.

Atlanta Mistakes happen. It is how we deal with them that differentiates the good from the unfortunate! Learn, move on and don't worry too much about the broken record (just tell her in your own way that most people listen to MP4's now so she should bin the proverbial LP she has been playing about your booking error!) As for your boss, it may be he is/was unhappy about someone else! Hope the rest of the week goes better! Jess

Thanks every one - you are right it is just donuts! I will learn from this - I've put a reminder in my calandar already for the August return trip to make sure the dates are exact!
