You know you're a dog person when ....

You have a kiddie wading pool in the yard, but no small children.

Lintwheels are on your shopping list every week.

You have baby gates permanently installed at strategic places around the house, but no babies.

The trash basket is more or less permanently installed in the kitchen sink, to keep the dog out of it while you're at work.

You can't see out the passenger side of the windshield because there are nose-prints all over the inside.

Poop has become a source of conversation for you and your significant other.

You refer to yourselves as Mommy and Daddy.

Your dog sleeps with you.

You talk about your dog the way other people talk about their kid.

You sign and send birthday/anniversary/Christmas cards from your dog.

You put an extra blanket on the bed so your dog can be comfortable.

You'd rather stay home on Saturday night and cuddle your dog than go to the movies with your sweetie.

You don't think it's the least bit strange to stand in the back yard chirping "Meg, pee!" over and over again, while Meg tends to play and forget what she's out there for (but what your neighbors think of your behavior is yet another story).

You and the dog come down with something like flu on the same day.  Your dog sees the vet while you settle for an over-the-counter remedy from the drugstore.

Ok, I fit way too many of these.  For my birthday I even got a card addressed to "mom" from my puppies.  This was a first, and it almost made me cry it was so sweet and cute the way it was done.  Hubby got a big kiss for that one too.

With me its my cats .... I've even slept half way down the bed without a pillow because the cat had fallen asleep on my pillow and looked so snug and cute that I didn't have the heart to wake her!!!!

This sounds so familiar, my brother and sister in law have a dog and believe me she's spoiled rotten and so many of these sound familiar.

How's this for spoiled?  If I'm baking a cake, as soon as I start beating the batter, my oldest dog sits at the kitchen door waiting for a chance to lick the spoon and bowl.  As soon as I pour the mix into the cake pan, he's sitting next to me, wagging his tail and sitting pretty waiting for his turn.  If I forget and put the bowl and spoon in the sink, he'll whine and slink out of the kitchen and go and sit with daddy (and he won't look at me for the rest of the night, either).  He's good about not begging most of the time, but he's a sucker for cake mix of any kind.

My MIL's dog is that way with Ice Cream!  She's got her so spoiled.  Dinner is promptly at 4:00 pm, night time its 8:30 pm she has to go out and instantly when she comes in expects her treats.  Then half hour later it's time for them to go to bed, and she will tease my MIL until she does go to bed.  MIL tries to stay awake til 10:30-11:00 if the doggie will let her, most times she'll go into the bedroom and go to sleep come out an hour or so later and look at her like, aren't you comin to bed?  Oh if they could just talk sometimes.

But the Ice Cream issue is she has a meat tray that MIL cleans up for her and she KNOWS that is her ice cream treat tray and the dog will carry it in with the tail waggin into the living room with the rest of us and then put her paw on the corner of the dish as she's licking it so it won't slide around on her, then picks up her tray and looks at ma for more.  She's relentless when it comes to vanilla ice cream.  Especially in the summertime when she's so hot.

You know you're a dog person when ....  You always close the lid on the toilet seat to keep the dogs from drinking out of it.

SNA, my cats like it too. (It's called the magic well around our house).  It's a hoot when one of the cats is precariously perched slurping away, and one of the dogs sneaks up and gooses the cat, with the expected result of a toilet dunked cat....
We usually laugh until we cry, and the cat sulks for days!

Mathwhiz... OMG    Too funny!  I'd pay to see that!  

My dogs aren't fond of water so the showers and tubs are safe (unless we're climbing out wet, then they think they're our personal driers!).  And they're too short for the toilet... but hubby got our oldest one big time the other day.

Anytime he's invited into the shower, he runs away.  Lately he's started jumping up on the toilet seat (lid closed) which is where he used to sit years ago when he'd watch me do my makeup and stuff.  Hubby decided to get him last week though... he left the lid of the toilet up and invited Scooter into the shower.  As predicted, Scooter ran and jumped onto the toilet.... except there was no "lid".  We expected a wet dog but he fooled us in how nimble he is and only his tail got a little damp.  He managed to land on the seat itself, four legs sprawled in all directions to keep him from landing in the water, and when he jumped down the look he gave us (while we're laughing at him) was enough to kill.  If he could've talked, I'm sure at least hubby would have gotten quite an earful.  As it was, Scooter still isn't loving up to dad like he normally does.  I tell hubby that Scooter's still pouting and will be until he gives him treats and apologizes for picking on him.  Watching those two interact is my nightly entertainment.

Our dog died about a year ago (he was 16), but we are Aunt and Uncle to several of our friend's dogs.  Last Christmass we spent about $150 in toys for 6 pets.

Well, there is a down side.  Sometimes we can grab the cat and a towel fast enough, and we have water streaks and sodden spots all through the house.  OR, the cat will get all kinds of dust stuck to the wet fur, clean him/her-self dry and then yark it all up (usually in a spot we only walk on in the middle of the night with barefeet).
They're class A-1 royal pains, but they do keep us young (and laughing).

Our 12 y/o Lab always gets a small treat when he goes out to do his business IF he comes back right away on his own or on the first call.  Treat is given to him in the utility room, but he always takes it into the dining room to eat it - we never figured out why. If he decides to go "walkabout" - no treat.  When he was about 3, one day he didn't come until I called 3 or 4 times.  When I said "no treat" and went back to the kitchen, he stood there looking at me for a minute, walked over to his regular food bowl, got one piece of his dried chow, took it into the dining room to eat it.  In essence he learned to get his own treat and now he does it every time the expected treat isn't forthcoming!
