Jeff broke in. "I wasn't watching you, you fool! I was taking orders. It was her, it was always her, I'm the innocent bystander here." He whined. He was being held back, none to gently, by two stone-faced agents in dark sunglasses (inside? Kirsten wondered about that), yet still he fought them, ineffectively, and lunged occasionally at Prudence.
"Quite, stupid." She hissed at him, "Or I'll tell Daddy just exactly how you screwed this whole thing up."
"Didn't either." He said, sounding more and more (to Kirsten) like Sharon when she was two years old and hadn't had her nap and was up late and had eaten chocolate and was terribly, terribly cranky. With Jeff's outburst, Prudence starts to stammer..."but it wasn't just me... What about Della's role? She masterminded the whole plan.. It shouldn't just be us that receives punishment...If Della hadn't married our father, we wouldn't be in this mess!" As Prudence finishes her sentence, the door slowly opens....... At first, Kristin couldn't see the face of the person opening the door. Since the light came from behind him, she could only make out the silhouette of a tall and portly man chomping on a large cigar. Slowly, he stepped into the room. Kristin's eyes grew rounder. Which was Kirsten's first thought, since the whole thing had taken on a rather theatrical and surreal aura - lack of proper sleep, she supposed. She shook her head to clear the cobwebs, and Perry Mason and Paul Drake turned into just two more men in trench coats.
She felt a light touch on her elbow, and Bob was whispering in her ear "Come on, it's time we got out of here." Pulling her gently along, they began to edge toward the door.
