Colin Powell quote... When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying that, “Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.”
It became very quiet in the room.
If you ever have the opportunity to hear Mr. Powell speak, please take the time to do so. Whether you agree with his politics or not, he is a wonderful speaker and the time will literally fly by.

Chevy,
Wonderful quote from Colin Powell.
I agree with you about his speaking ability! I saw him about 4 or 5 years ago at one of those all-day arena programs with about 8 speakers and I was totally impressed. I'm very glad that he is so involved in our country's policies right now because I look at him as the "voice of reason."
Another speaker that day was William Bennett, former Secretary of Education; he was equally fantastic.

I heard Mr. Powell at one of those all day arena things as well. Elizabeth Dole was also a speaker that day and I thoroughly enjoyed also. The time just flew by so fast.

I read another quote recently from him that made me smile. Apparently during a press conference, he was asked a question from an Iraqi reporter who was bent on pointing out the ignorance of americans. He asked in a very insulting way something like, "Isn't it true that only 13% of Americans can locate Iraq on a map?"
Mr. Powell responded, "Possibly that's true. Unfortunately for you, those 13% are Marines."
