OK obviously we now have power, YEAH!  I hope all our Northeasterners are okay and that our Canadian folks are too as well.  No unecessary travel posted cause it's hit and miss functional lights.  People please remember when stop lights are out please use it as a four way stop and be considerate of each other and look out for everyone.

I hope all stays on now after being out almost 2 hours and the sights in NYC are wild wilth people moving around cars to get out of the city.  What a sight.

Chris, it must be quite a sight.  Glad to know you have power and can still communicate with the outside world!  Crazy news this morning that the Canadians and Americans are both blaming each other for the problem.  If it was lightning then I think it's a higher being - either way they should just get on with it and sort it out pdq and stop bickering like kids about it!  LOL

I'm sure New York will do what they always to do and face the problem head on .. I have such admiration for the people of that city it seems no matter what the crisis they overcome it.

I must admit by heart did drop last night when I heard the news no where had power .. I instantly throught terrorism and thought please god not again.

A couple of thoughts from the Upstate NY side of things.

First of all I am so proud that everything was handled very smoothly and that there is NO interruption of the PGA Championships being held in our fair city this week.  Also no looting in the streets after hours that I can tell, no major accidents in our area and folks were just looking out for one anothers safety in a time of crisis.

Second, let me remind folks that please DO NOT let your gas tanks get too low and stay too low.  Both DH and I learned that lesson last night and I immediatley filled my gas tank this morning on my way to work now that most of the power has been restored.

Thirdly, if it was a lightning strike it had to be from earlier in the week or even last week cause yesterday was an absolutely georgous day in Upstate NY and NO lightning flashes were reported anywhere.  It was sunny and warm and a high of 88 yesterday which for August is warmer than normal.  So whatever the problems were even if it were a lightning strike from earlier in the week I hope both sides can work together to solve the problem and learn from it going forward.

Chris - I was wondering about you!  Glad you were safe.  You had power back relatively quickly, too!

Thanks for the reminder about gas.  I guess the pumps don't work so well without the juice, huh?
