week of September 6- How much time do you spend...
«

On the web these days and for what? Has the web replaced the way you do some things? Do you order supplies, book travel or do you still need the sound of a human voice to manage the day to day operations? And how much time do you spend per day on the Net and for what reasons?
Do tell...

Not much I have to say as my company has tools on their intranet site for booking travel and ordering stationery. Sometimes if I need to make an amendment or change a travel booking, then I would phone their office. At other times I use it if I need to find out information - then of course I come to DD!

I figure I spend about 30 minutes per day on the net, mainly in DD. That works, since I get a total of 30 minutes for breaks during the day.
Otherwise, I may get online to check on office supplies (what's available, not for ordering), check on flights/weather, and other day-to-day items, but that is only very occassionally. My job really does not require a lot of internet accessibility.

I spend about half my time on the internet at work. Part of my duties is to find updated and new addresses for our doctors and potential doctors. I like doing research on the internet.

I spend way more time than I need to. Time-wise, I probably spend an hour or more every day. I spend most of the time online for personal reasons (DeskDemon, CNN, local news, etc.) Once in a while, my boss will ask me to research something for him, but those requests are few and far between.

Hi all
I use the internet for ordering stationery - though that has been cut down a bit because now our branches can order it themselves and I just have to go to one page to authorise it - that saves loads of time!
If I need to research something, it's the first place I go, both at work and at home. If my boss has a meeting with a new company then I will go to their website and print out some company info for him.
I sometimes log on to DD at work if I need to go to the Software Forum to get a quick, accurate answer to a problem but I catch up on other DD posts at home in the evening.
As for travel, I don't have to use it that much as I work for a travel company and leave that mainly to my more experienced colleagues! They all use the Internet though rather than an outdated old system still in place called Viewdata. More and more travel companies are going online with their booking systems.
Oh, and I sometimes pay my boss' London Congestion Charge through the 'net!
All the best,
Nicola.

I'm on and off the internet several times during the day. I use it for ordering office supplies, filing tax returns and making payments, research, checking the weather for our guys out in the field and the office, keeping up with industry news and probably a dozen more things I can't think of at the moment. I also take breaks throughout the day to check the news for myself or sites like DD just to rest my brain a moment so I don't get to overloaded with the stress of my normal work.

I actually spend quite a bit of time on the internet every day. I do a lot of web orders. In addition, I find that I am constantly getting on the internet to find information. Can't imagine what I did before the internet!

I do get on the internet but mostly for DD and for research for the boss. Just yesterday I was asked to find out rules and regs for NYS smoking rules in an office. Unfortunatley I didn't get the answer I wanted to hear but at least I was able to tell him what the rules were before we proceded to change a policy.

I use the internet for stepping in here, of course [smile. I use the internet for travel information, but mostly for research particularly with respect to legislation and trade union matters.

I usually spend about 20 minutes per day on the internet. I prepare my overnight shipment bills and spend some time booking flights or hotel reservations. It is very convenient.

I don't use the internet at work all that much either. Occasionally I'll check something on an office supply store's site, but I order by fax (their website is clunky anyway). Sometimes I use whitepages.com to avoid a costly call to directory assistance. I really don't do much else with it at work. At home is a different story: I do ALL research, plus look up businesses, keep up with a couple of message boards (like DD!), read the news, etc.

I use it ALL the time! Researching materials, services, getting quotes, making travel arrangements, etc., etc., etc. I don't know what I did without it.

I use the Internet all the time as well. For dictionary definitions, telephone numbers, conversion tools etc etc. It's a rare treat for me to be out at a meeting!
