... and there's no rain ...

Persistence, perseverance, stubborness ... call it what you like, but yesterday afternoon I achieved something I have been working for for three years. I just have to share this with you, so please forgive the long story.
Some of you may be aware that, in addition to my paid job, I am also the union rep at my workplace - a voluntary role I have undertaken for the past three years. Six years ago, the previous union rep initiated a job evaluation exercise. All jobs were graded, salaries adjusted where appropriate etc. I inherited, however, some major problems from that initiative, such as how new jobs would be evaluated and existing jobs that had changed could be re-evaluated. I undertook many, many hours of discussions, work on my part (mostly in my own time) to draft policy and methodology to deal with this matter. Just before Christmas last year my policy was agreed by all parties. So far, so good.
Yesterday saw the first case being considered under that agreement - a colleague who wanted her job re-evaluated. AND IT WORKS. We agreed a regrading for my colleague and a good increase in her compensation.
I am so happy; I love it when a plan comes together. As I said ... I'm dancing ...
Back to work now.
