I cannot get psyched up to take notes at my upcoming weekly meeting--for 1.5 hours.
The amount of stuff I have to record is actually really minimal. However, because it's a small room and we're all close together, I can't really do anything else on my computer (I use my personal laptop). If I could sit somewhere else, I could convert and edit raw photo files from my camera or something while I wait for recordable information to happen, but unfortunately I sit right next to the managers so I'm stuck. Just. Sitting.
At first they had me record everything that happened and although it was not exciting, it kept me busy because people talk fast. But then they decided they only wanted very limited info in the notes. I'm not sure why they even want an extra person to take notes--anyone could write this stuff down and email it to the group. Except for the CIO's meetings, no other group has an admin there to take notes. They just designate someone from the group to do it. And as I said, I wouldn’t mind if there was a substantial body of work to do--but there IS NOT.
The subject of the meeting is not something I work on or am involved with at all, nor is it an area I hope to move into (EVER), so I'm having a hard time...help?

Is it something they could tape record? If so then you could transcribe from the tape and possibly skip over the unimportant stuff, or at least do something else while listening to the tape??

Hi, Each month I have to sit in on the conference call for the programming and tech support staff - it has nothing to do with my - however, I am like you supposed to take notes. I created an outline of the time and topics to be discussed. I mentioned to my boss that if we had a general out line of the month's support call then if we emailed to all managers involved prior to the meeting that they could put their notes and feed back on it - then on the call I could go through it and make sure that all topics were discussed add any notes and then email to everyone. Not sure if something similar can be done to help you out - but it is just an idea.
