I've always been a lurker (occasionally creep out of the woodwork!)
Came across DeskDemon by pure chance a few years ago now.

Been in the same job the whole time I've been a DD'er (and then some - 13 years!!) but not for much longer - our company has been taken over and I'm being made redundant at the end of the year - knew it was coming so no big surprise.

The real surprise will be starting somewhere new after all this time  -  yikes!!    Now that is daunting.

Susan,

I think I came across it by accident.  I had returned from England about a year and a half and remember giving out DD email to work colleagues when we got made redundant.....yes it's the 4th time now.  I love it though, best forum for bouncing ideas off others and getting advice/help with anything from Office to everyday events.

Hi all

Guess Im something of a newbie to this site; only been registered little over a month now!

I work for a Further Education College in South East Wales, UK as Administrative Assistant to the Head of Life Sciences which incorporates Health and Caring and Independent Living Skills.

Ive been in my current post since August 2006 and previously worked as a Personal Assistant to a team of Managing Directors for a government-funded work-based training provider.

I have trained although do not practice as an NVQ Assessor in Business Adminsitration, Customer Service and IT, and am an Affiliate Licentiate of the Institute of Assessors and Internal Verifiers.

Other professional memberships include IQPS and the Association of University Administrators.

I am currently working towards the OCR NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration and beyond that intend to enrol on the HND in Business.

I look forward to reading all your future posts!

Matt,
I've seen a couple of your new posts and we've never formally welcomed you to the site and the community.  So let me be the first to say "Welcome!" and it's great to see another new face posting out here.  You'll see that we're quite friendly, and though we might not always all agree, we definitely can look at a multitude of issues and offer personal opinions in a way that lets everyone make their own decisions.  And new voices such as yours just means we've added to the knowledge base of this site.  We hope to see you posting often.

An official Welcome Party will be hosted on Friday, during the normal Conga party.

I also noticed a lot of our "lurkers" are coming out to say hello, and I'd like to extend a warm "Hello" to all of them, too.  It's great to know that even when the site is as quiet as it has been, that there are still folks coming and going.  Now if we could just convince y'all not to be so quiet all the time.  But seriously, it is great to know that you're out there, helping to keep this site running... there might be only a few of us that are vocal on here, but there is a whole community of folks out there that are backin us up, and we thank you all... I have a question for y'all...but I'll start it in a new post.

::::::::WELCOME, One and All!:::::::::::::::::::::

I came over here from Admin Authority website.  I miss Andrea's stories, too!  Have been with the same company in the same position for 17 years, but am on my 4th MD.  I lurk a lot, seldom post, but learn so much from all of you that do post that I feel like I know you!

Started out on Office Click as a lurker (there was alot of harsh chatter going on there..), still lurk alot, but have found my voice on occassion since everyone's here is so great, they really make you feel like you belong here!

Still with the same company (24 years) but job has changed some, I have my own office now (YEAH!)

Welcome to all the Newbies that are posting!!  Don't be afraid to post, we love hearing from everyone!

I lurked on Office Click for a while - never got up the nerve to post.  I was lost for a few months when it died.  Then I found TAA and have been here ever since.  I usually check in a couple of times a day, although I only post occasionally.  I have learned so much, and I feel the connection has helped me grow as a professional.  I may not chime in much, but believe me I appreciate you all so much!

I'm still in the same place and have been for so many years (we didn't have computers, just typewriters, when I started here).  My job has changed somewhat.  I'm still in the same seat, same phone extension, etc.  Doing more financial stuff and less secretarial stuff.  I'm very happy about it and would jump for joy if they would give me just the financial and take away the secretarial!  Not seeing that happening any time soon, but I keep hoping and pushing.

Long Time Lurker,
I started out with whatever site was home in 2000 and just kept following until we ended up here.  I've moved jobs several times but Desk Demon was always here for me to pop in for a little break or get questions answered.  When I was looking for a new position this is where I did research for questions to ask during interviews I can't tell you how much this helped me.  I enjoy reading the differences that occasionaly need explanation  because DD is an international site.
Where I work now is long term (the State) but the office and job could change as often as I would like, no matter what I will be taking DD with me.

Hello, I'm another remnant from Office Click, and I never got my little doll!  I remember being miffed by that.  Anyway, followed to here.  I've gone from HR administrative assistant to HR Manager in that time.  I still lurk here occassionally because some things are universal across occupations.  And I love the email, it has a great reliability and I've been able to use it for personal and job searches for many years.

I don't remember how I found it those many years ago, but I started at Office Click. Unfortunately I was in a better position professionally then than I am in now... It has been a rough 3 years - almost 4 now -- I'm just carrying on until I can make another change. In the meantime, I've learned that people may have the best of intentions but are prevented by those above them to keeping to "promises" they make, and that those in higher positions will outright lie - in a 1:1 meeting they request with you - if it will benefit their cause. AND that I should always listen to my instincts – which I haven’t done twice in the past 3 years…

And I'll second, third, forth, or wherever the count is now... I do miss Andrea. Hey lady - if you're lurking, please check in! Brag on for all the successes you must be having!

Yvonne here from Sunny Leicester (for a change). I am mostly a lurker but I do occasionally post.  Never heard of the other websites, came across DD a few months ago when surfing  the web looking for interesting sites for admin in UK... which this is the only one I have found.  Really love reading everyone's comments,

Like Matt I work in Further Education  under the remit of PA to the Manager of basic skills (or Skills for Life if following government speak) - and wish him good luck with his NVQ level 3 Business & Admin - did mine a few years ago and know the hard work it entails.

Had to post the flag - nearly the World Cup... Go England!!!!

Hiya Smiley

I think I found it by typing into google.  I've been looking for a new job and wanted to start building up a network for support.  New job is as PA to MD, whereas I currently work in course admin at the local college and it's not a good use of my skills.

I started off with the Brit DD over five years ago ... it was a diversion in my last job, which was hardly brain-taxing.  I changed jobs in August 2001, and for some months didn't dare look at the 'Net as I was The Newbie.  However, after a few months I thought I'd look in again "for work purposes" and kept on doing so - there was masses of new stuff on there to keep me entertained.  And I've kept looking in ever since.
