What is the most challenging element in your job. The one duty or task that makes you really think and expand your mind?

Overcoming the deeply ingrained attitudes towards administrators which have become entrenched in the minds of my team and administrative colleagues.: - we are not 'just admin' - we are entitled to and need supervision and appraisals - we are entitled to and need professional development - we have chosen this career and don't secretly want the jobs of the people we support.
I feel like I've made headway in the time I have been in post but there is still a long way to go.

My financial responsibilites. I love them for that very reason! I have to think everything through. There are so many rules and nuances of those rules that it is a challenge just keeping abreast of everything. Just when I start to feel confident that I have it down, they come along with something I never heard of before. It's great and I wish I could do it full time. I've been pushing and pushing toward that end, but so far no luck.

Keeping up with what my Boss is doing. I'm very fortunate in the fact that my Boss considers me her PARTNER and not just her assistant or secretary. Of course this means that I've had to learn many things very quickly as no one has ever given me such support, encouragement and leeway. Righ now my big project is helping her research and write a new business plan. Our business model has changed, and we need to make sure our plan supports that change.

Attempting to stay one step ahead....
Be it meetings, appointments, assignments, etc - it's a constant juggle to make sure Boss has the time to get everything accomplished and at the same time not getting absolutely slammed that there is no breathing space during the day/week.

I agree - staying one step ahead of my boss.
I've only been working for him for a little over nine months, but I am finally getting that feeling that I can anticipate some of his next moves.
Another thing is searching for tasks he currently performs that I can do and free up more of his time for business development. Of course, the more I take off his plate, the more time he has to promote our firm to clients; the more he promotes the firm to clients, the more projects we are awarded; the more projects we are awarded, the more he needs to me take over for him. So, the real challenge is taking the work and performing tasks in a smarter way to keep me from getting overwhelmed.
It can be a juggling act.
