How do you get a manager to sit still long enough so that he can show you how to do something so he can do other things?  I seem to spend quite a lot of my time playing hunt the manager.  I’m tempted to get him a GPS locator.  At least then I would know where he is!!!   I speak to him more when he’s on holiday or away on business than I do when he is in the office! How silly is that?

I would try scheduling a meeting with him.  If it's on his calendar I would think he would be able to attend because I'm sure he attends many other meetings.

My boss and I have developed a rhythm where the first 5-10 minutes of his work day he meets with me for whatever I need to cover with him or talk to him about.  I come in earlier than he does so I can be prepared as soon as he walks in.  It's not something we set up specifically, it's just a rhythm we've fallen into and works well for us.

I work for an extremely high energy executive who is on the go all day.  I know where he is though.  I schedule time on his calendar for planning and review.  This has worked well.  Does your boss have a Blackberry?  e-mail him.
Icommunicate with my boss all day with that method when he is meetings.  Does he carry his phone with him?  Call his cell phone.  Text him.  We have IM (instant messaging) in our e-mail system.  That works well.  We also have a network between the EA's and help each other keep tabs on our guys when meetings run over or disband early.  Just a few suggestions.
