I'm really excited, it was just announced today that my boss got a job promotion from a VP to a SVP. Of course, I've known that it was in the works because he asked me to be his assistant in his new position! I'll be exiting my role over the next couple weeks and trying to figure out what this new job looks like for both of us. It's scary because I'm very comfortable where I am but am also looking forward to the new opportunity. I'm glad that I get to continue working with my boss but the 4 Directors that I've been supporting aren't too happy that I'm leaving. Which is good though, I'd be worried if they were happy to see me go. (I just figured out how to get the smilies to work so I had to throw a couple in!)

Cakes for tea all round, then. Get your hat and coat on and go shopping.
Congratulations, MizLynn, and let us know how you get on.
Best wishes,
Raindance

Nice that you are appreciated enough for him to ask you to stay with him.
Well done.

Hey, that's awesome! Well done. What a great boost--both the promotion, and the appreciation you've garnered in the other supervisors.
P.S. Share the love--how did you get the smilies to work?

Congratulations on the new job! That was how I got my first Executive Assistant postion. My boss was promoted, and he took me with him. It's always great when your boss appreciates your service like that. Jodith Edited by diamondlady on 28/02/08 01:01 PM.

raindance – I went shoe shopping right after the announcement, bought 3 really cute pairs of shoes! I do have a bit of an addiction when it comes to shoe shopping. Adminkate – When you're composing a new post, click on “markup in your posts†(near the top) Or here's the link: http://us.deskdemon.com/community/forums/faq_english.php?Cat=#htmlThat gives all the smiley codes. Thanks for the comments everyone. It really is the ultimate compliment from my boss to take me with him in the new position so this is very exciting.

Well done! It's always nice to be appreciated and you're absolutely right - it is a real compliment to be asked to go along with your boss when he gets promotion / moves on.
And I can't think of any better way to celebrate than buying shoes. Especially more than one pair. My own weakness is shoes ... and nail polishes ... and I confess to the occasional handbag ... and jacket ... but mostly and most often is shoes. Either as a celebration or consolation. Works either way!

Congrats on the job!! Speaking of shoes, my hubby asked me last week what was in all the shoe boxes in my closet. My reply was "shoes of course". He wanted to know why I needed so many pairs, he said he gets by with just 3 different pairs! Go figure! Marie

Great news! Congratulations!
It is a great feeling when you know you are appreciated and the boss can take you with him/her when you have developed a great working relationship/partnership. I too recently transitioned with my boss. I am learning lots and taking the initiative to meet with others to get background on the information and processes involved in the new role. It has helped us both tremendously to have me taking care of the process and information pieces of the new role and he take care of the organization/business side. It is a great information share, and we are both teaching each other. He has even invited me to attend meetings with him since we are both in the "learning curve" with the new responsibilities. I love the challenge.
