... and there's no rain ... Persistence, perseverance, stubborness ... call it what you like, but yesterday afternoon I achieved something I have been working for for three years. I just have to share this with you, so please forgive the long story. Some of you may be aware that, in addition to my paid job, I am also the union rep at my workplace - a voluntary role I have undertaken for the past three years. Six years ago, the previous union rep initiated a job evaluation exercise. All jobs were graded, salaries adjusted where appropriate etc. I inherited, however, some major problems from that initiative, such as how new jobs would be evaluated and existing jobs that had changed could be re-evaluated. I undertook many, many hours of discussions, work on my part (mostly in my own time) to draft policy and methodology to deal with this matter. Just before Christmas last year my policy was agreed by all parties. So far, so good. Yesterday saw the first case being considered under that agreement - a colleague who wanted her job re-evaluated. AND IT WORKS. We agreed a regrading for my colleague and a good increase in her compensation. I am so happy; I love it when a plan comes together. As I said ... I'm dancing ... Back to work now. Raindance
Just a quick question. Were you, at some time, an extra on the tv for The A-Team (I love it when a plan comes together!)?
Congratulations!
Jess (I am ssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooooo bored as you can probably tell!)

Nope. But I rather liked that show, especially when they built all kinds of vehicles out of - seemingly - "nothing".

But that is exactly what my job entails at the moment - making/doing something out of nothing!

I'll even do your washing and ironing! (bossies kicked me out of my job while I was on sick leave - job no longer exists - and so might be working for new bunch who equally don't want/need me!).

Raindance, I have no idea what you look like but I've gotten this hysterical visual of "you" with a pair of black gloves and a cigar jutting from your teeth, a la Hannibal...... Hee hee!

If you're really up for some torture, DD's having her 13th birthday Friday night, seven giggling girls spending the night. And for the first time, she's invited boys to her party (don't faint eveyone, they're leaving at 10:00, not spending the night!). I'm already looking forward to Saturday evening, I'm sure we'll be going to bed early, since we won't get much sleep Friday night!

Congrats Raindance! It's so much fun when you put together something and get to see it in action and see it become a positive experience. Sounds like you did a great job! Marieh, have fun with the party - it will generate stories that can be told for years to come.
